The WGC Mexico Championship week last March marked a turning point in the history of golf sport in the country of Mexico. This event not only changed the way we see golf but touched many lives, creating and awakening the passions of children, young and not so young. Personally, I never imagined that an event like this would reach my heart and soul. This was because our children from the Primer Swing programme were invited to witness this great event and be an official part of the program that will be called First Tee Mexico, thanks to the initiative of Benjamín Salinas in conjunction with the PGA.

Golf is a sport that promotes virtues such as honesty, discipline, integrity, respect and trust. First Tee Mexico seeks to invest in youth and promote social values through sports, resulting in a comprehensive, humanitarian and educational programme, as it is linked as a tool in the development of better citizens.

The First Tee was born in Mexico in order to help children from different corners of our country to be better people through a scheme that seeks to fulfill three objectives:

  • Design, develop and implement long-term plans that help improve and morally enrich children. Through golf programmes, we want to contribute to enrich the values of a society.
  • Promote social and family coexistence with recreation and learning activities.
  • Develop, through golf, skills to strengthen self-esteem and character in children and youth.

The first chapter, which began on November 20th 2017, can be found in Las Maravillas, at the Infogolf School, in the State of Puebla. The beneficiaries are the students of the Cayehucan community. This 9 hole pitch & putt golf facility is where true precision golf is practiced, and through this extra-curricular programme, we help shape the lives of young people from all walks of life. We are confident that our programme will have a positive impact on the participants, their families and the community.

The mission of First Tee Mexico is to impact and positively change the stories of children in our country, providing educational programs that build character, promote values and promote healthy options through golf.

The vision is to provide programmes and opportunities for all children in the country, exposing them to the virtues and fundamentals of golf as a tool for life, regardless of social conditions. All this under the pillars of honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, trust, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, good judgment and empathy.

The First Tee Mexico seeks to create better human beings with impeccable values and virtues, who can discover the different disciplines that golf has to offer.

Our plan is very ambitious, we are working to have three more chapters in 2018 and a total of 30 by 2030. Even though it is not in our priorities, we are sure a Mexican major champion will come out of First Tee Mexico. Magic happens when you mix passion, talent and hunger.
