Elected the first President of EIGCA in 2000, David Williams graduated in Architecture from Bath University in 1974. He entered golf course design in the early 1980s, initially as Consultant Golf Architect to Neil Coles & Associates. During the 1980s, he was also golf consultant to the PGA European Tour, responsible with leading professionals for the design of new tournament courses throughout Europe.
Since 1990 he has concentrated greatly on courses designed in his own name. By providing detailed drawings and precise specifications, and generally building the course "gently on the landscape", he designs high quality courses at affordable costs. His philosophy, that the information provided for the project should equal that in architectural and engineering fields, ensures courses are built to budget and on time, leading to 30 new golf courses built to his designs throughout Europe in the last 25 years, the majority in south east England.
His practice is also very active assisting clubs throughout the UK and Spain in restoration, renovation, reconstruction and extension projects, and has worked on over 200 clubs throughout the UK and Europe in that time.
