The first is entitled Tom Williamson: the complete pro. This book was written and donated to the Institute by Robert Fletcher, who approached me earlier in the year with a request for information about Williamson. It includes chapters on his work as an architect and details of the courses he designed. It’s always nice to get biographies of individual architects and this one is an especially welcome addition to the collection. You can buy your own copy for £10.00 including postage from Robert Fletcher by writing to him at robertffletcher@aol.com.
The second book is Golf Courses: fairways of the world, photographed by David Cannon. This book highlights stunning panoramic views of more that eighty golf courses from around the world and is a comprehensive collection of the world’s best courses designed by icons such as Philip Mackenzie Ross, A W Tillinghast, and Harry Colt, together with those of modern architects such Hawtree, Kyle Phillips, and Tom Doak.
The other books acquired recently are facsimile copies of two classics:
The Library does, of course, already have these books – both reprints – but it is useful to have additional copies of such classic titles. They both embody many of the basic principles of golf course architecture practiced today – students take note!
