The Marrakech Resort, together with The Tony Jacklin Casablanca, is the second project designed by Marco in the last two years in the Kingdom of Morocco.

Tony Jacklin, the veteran two-times Major Champion and one of the best British players ever, made the first drive on the new course. This was followed by a presentation and social gala party, attended by Monsieur Seffrioui, President of The Addoha Group, and Kenza Seffrioui, President of the Prestigia division, the promoters of the project, as well as the Moroccan Minister of Defence, political dignitaries and representatives of society and sport in Morocco. Marco, as golf architect, and Angel Serrano, technical director of Irrigation & Golf Engineering, were responsible for the engineering of the project and the supervision of the work. At the event they were congratulated for their work and dedication to the project.

The celebration ended with a short speech from Tony Jacklin in which he enthusiastically recalled the proposition he received from Stirling & Martin to add his name to the course and thanked the golf course designers, Blake Stirling and Marco Martin. He said he was very proud to be associated with this great golf course.

Prior to this event, and with landscaping work still to be completed, a four-day competition (the Tournament Interclub of Morocco) had been organized by The Royal Moroccan Federation Golf and The French Golf Federation. On the opening Saturday a tournament was held with golf professionals and guest players from Morocco and Europe.

The reaction of golfers at the end of the day could not have been more complimentary. They highlighted the attractive design of the course, the wide range of holes, its versatility for different levels of play, and the attractive landscaping. All enhanced by the incredible views over the City and the Atlas mountain range. The course has the potential to become a tourist attraction in Marrakech.

Marco’s layout is developed on an area of more than 100 hectares and consists of eighteen holes, par 72, 6482 meters in length, and another nine holes, par 3. Included is a generous driving range and complete short game area, making it a well-equipped golf school. The design recreates the elements that characterize the landscape of Marrakech, such as mountains, red soil, aridity and vegetation. The contrast between the bare red soil and the lush green grass is enhanced by three lakes on the course.
