Soil. This is an interesting one and the EC is now looking more seriously at measures to protect soil, which may include an increase in designated protection areas and this could reduce the land available for golf course development. The attached document outlines the latest study carried out for the EC on soil protection.
The EC is now targeting endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and this will, most likely, bring a further reduction on the number of pesticides available for golf course management. I attach a list of 870 chemicals that are claimed to be EDCs. I do not expect you to go through the list but it does contain pesticides in common use on golf courses, such as glyphosate. I think that the main message is that the EC are continuing to investigate, with a view to further restricting, the use of chemicals on all forms of land management and that we all need to adopt IPM and reduce reliance on pesticides.
