The Institute was recently informed that Jorge Soler, an Associate Member, had sadly died at the beginning of the year.

Simon Gidman, a Past President of EIGCA, commented:

"I interviewed Jorge for his application as an Associate many years ago and I know he took his membership of the Institute and his profession as a golf course architect very seriously.

Jorge did a lot of work with David Thomas where his experience as an Engineer was particularly helpful in the construction of some of David’s golf courses in Spain. During his time with David he developed his design skills to the point where he felt he could apply to the Institute, which he duly did in 2002.

Jorge was not only a keen architect but was also very passionate about Spain and the style of living that Spain afforded him and I remember him driving me a long way to sample some Spanish delicacy at a fabulous restaurant, miles from anywhere.

Jorge was a great 'all rounder' who thoroughly enjoyed his career in golf course architecture and was proud to be a member of the Institute."
