Golf Information News, Vol 7, No 9, November 2010

Welcome to the latest issue of Golf Information News!
In this issue I have included reports about the R&A Environment Booklet on The Old Course and a STERF report on Integrated Pest Management. I have also included something about the European Golf Union's statistics on overall numbers of golf courses and players by country, which I have recently come across and thought you might be interested in.

The R&A Guide to Wildlife on The Old Course

R&A Environment Bppklet

For the past four years the R&A has produced a guide to wildlife on the Open Championship course. This year's publication is on the environmental management of the Links on The Old Course at St Andrews.
Produced by The R&A, the publication was developed by the Scottish Golf Environment Group, with information supplied by St Andrews Links Trust and Fife Coast & Countryside Trust. Funding support was provided by the Scottish Golf Union, Scottish Natural Heritage and Lexus.

STERF´s Research and Development programme within Integrated Pest Management

Sterf IPM Booklet

This programme describes the current situation and presents the research, development and communication needed in order for Nordic golf to carry out the measures needed to achieve sustainable use of pesticides according to EU Council Directive 2009/128/ EG, dated 21 October 2009.

Social Links: the Golf Boom in Victorian England

Social Links cover

Author, Donald Cameron, has donated a copy of his book, Social Links: the Golf Boom in Victorian England, to the Library.
The British Golf Collectors Society have selected this book as the winner of the Society's Murdoch Medal for 2010. The Murdoch Medal is the Society's most prestigious award and is made in recognition of a 'contribution to the heritage of golf'.

European Golf Union Statistics

New statistics published the EGA show that golf is continuing its growth across the continent. But the stats make less happy reading for the British Isles, where the severe fall-off in interest seen in the past four years is continuing.
